Overview

An introduction to invasive plant species and their impacts including legislation and policy followed by practical aspects of:

  • site inspection, risk assessment and monitoring
  • planning and implementing biosecurity including preventative measures and rapid response
  • management/control options
  • waste management
  • quoting, warranties, insurance and bonds

All this will inform the production of an Invasive Plant Management Plan, guidance on the production of which will be the culmination of the course.

Learning Outcomes

  1. An overview of invasive plant species in the British and Irish isles, their impacts, key legislation and policy and how to keep with changes and new legislation
  2. How to undertake site inspection, risk assessment and monitoring and develop a critical approach to managing invasive plant
  3. The essentials of planning and implementing biosecurity including quoting, herbicide use and waste management
  4. The nature and role of warranties, insurance and bonds
  5. How to produce an Invasive Plant Management Plan including aims, content and critical assessment
