Field visit to RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands

22 May 2015, Neston

Katherine Allen MCIEEM, North West England Committee

Colin Wells, manager of the Burton Mere RSPB reserve for many years, gave us a fascinating tour of the reserve.  He described the process of acquiring and restoring former arable land and fishing pools into what is now an internationally important wetland including reedbeds and fens.

We enjoyed spectacular views across the Dee estuary and discussed various aspects of restoration ecology, as well as badger relocation due to archaeological remains!
