Irish Section Committee:

SecretaryDeborah D'Arcy ACIEEM

I am a self-employed Ecologist committed to high standards of practice and interested in the development and promotion of best practice for practitioners. I have a broad interest and range of project experience working on impact assessments, biodiversity plans and habitat management. I have acted as Secretary to the committee since January 2014. I am also a member of the Policy Review Group and act as the CIEEM representative attending the working groups of the Forum for Natural Capital. I would like to stand again for the position of Secretary to contribute to the promotion of best practice and provision of professional development services for ecologists in Ireland.

TreasurerJoanne Denyer MCIEEM

I have over 15 years’ experience of ecological survey, research and teaching in Ireland and the UK. I currently work as a freelance consultant ecologist (Denyer Ecology). I specialise in botanical and bryological survey, assessment and research and in particular I focus on wetland and aquatic vegetation. I have been a full member of CIEEM since 2008 and have served on the CIEEM Irish Section Committee since 2009. I enjoy working with other ecologists on the committee to promote and develop the CIEEM Irish Section for our members.

Committee MemberOrla Maguire CEnv MCIEEM

Orla has over 20 years experience working as an ecologist across research, consultancy and is currently employed in local government.  She delivers a wide range of ecological projects including protected species, land restoration and enhancement projects as well as strategic biodiversity planning.  Her work involves coordination and engagement with varied stakeholders from Government Departments to Community Groups.

Orla has been a member of the Irish Section Committee for several years. With a particular interest in policy and legislation she values being involved in developing CIEEM consultation responses to shape future policies and standards.  Orla is a guest lecturer at Queens University Belfast passing on knowledge and experience to the next generation of conservation biology and planning students.  “I’m particularly interested in forging links between ecologists and land managers to enable positive action for biodiversity.”

Committee MemberAdam McClure MCIEEM

An ecologist with RPS in Belfast since 2014, I previously worked as Red Kite Officer for RSPB and a Ranger for Scottish Wildlife Trust. Specialising in ornithology, I also undertake a range of other ecological surveys; including terrestrial mammals, newts and Phase I Habitat.   Outside work, I am Co Antrim Rep for the BTO and member of Copeland Bird Observatory. I am a qualified Marine Mammal Observer and recently started volunteering as a land-based surveyor with IWDG.

I hope to help raise awareness of CIEEM within the profession, whilst getting involved and networking with fellow ecologists across Ireland.

Committee MemberPaul Scott CEcol CEnv MCIEEM

I am a Chartered Ecologist and Environmentalist and have been actively involved with the CIEEM Irish Section Committee since 2005, serving as Convenor, Treasurer and Ordinary Member. I am passionate about improving the standards in ecological assessment and bringing more value to the membership in Ireland.  My long service with CIEEM brings continuity to the Committee and helps to ensure that the good work of previous members is not lost. My involvement with delivering CIEEM AA workshops and CIEEM bat and mammal events will also bring experience to the Committee.
