Naiad Environmental Consultancy with Adrian Davis as director, has over 30 years’ experience in the ecology and environmental management sector for a range of Scottish private and public sector bodies.  Previous clients include Scottish Natural Heritage SNH, Scottish and Southern Energy SSE, Total, RES, Lomond Homes, RPS Group (Environmental Consultants), Scottish Wildlife Trust and Envirocentre. Contracts included a wide range of projects such as Stronelairg Windfarm ECOW, Glen Doe Hydro Scheme, Galawhistle Habitat Management Plan, and numerous ecological assessments for windfarms including full Environmental Impact Assessment EIA. 

Naiad have a wide range of skills which include botanical survey methods Phase 1 habitat survey and extensive knowledge of the National Vegetation Classification throughout Scotland.  Naiad have conducted research on many Scottish mammals including wildcats, red deer, and red squirrels including the publication, The Scottish Wildcat Survey for SNH, 2010.  Naiad have specialism in wildcats and pine martens, upland habitats including peatlands, habitat restoration and mitigation for windfarms, and hydro schemes and we are peatland advisor for many upland sites on blanket bog. Naiad also cover Ecological Clerk of Works ECOW and in specialist cases Environmental Advisor roles on construction sites. We also offer ecological training through our sister company Wildoutdoors Ltd.

We are a small business in Birnam, Perthshire, Scotland offering ecological consultancy services and training through our sister company Wildoutdoors Ltd. We are looking for an ecological assistant to join us to support our small team. 

Key role of the ecological assistant:

  • Technician for Geographical Information System GIS
  • Ecological Clerk of Works
  • Ornithological surveys and assessment
  • Botanical/mammal surveys and assessment
  • General admin including filing and recording
  • Report writing
  • Other duties as required

Ideally you should have a degree in ecology or biology and with at least 2-3 years experience in ecological survey and or consultancy preferably in Scotland, with detailed working knowledge of GIS. You must also have experience as an Ecological Clerk of Works ECOW.

You will be required to undertake bird, botanical and mammal surveys and assessments for a range of projects therefore knowledge of Scottish birds, survey techniques and assessment procedure would be useful. However you will be given training and coaching in a number of these fields.

You must be physically fit and able to lone work in mountain environments. The position will involve working some evenings and occasionally weekends. Accommodation may be available with this post.
