Job details

LUC is an award-winning environmental consultancy providing planning, impact assessment, landscape design and ecology services to a wide range of public and private sector clients.

With a track record of over 50 years and a team of over 125 skilled professionals, we bring a passion for the environment and a determination to achieve sustainable development on behalf of our clients.

We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of innovative thinking, successfully resolving even the most complex of issues. We care about the legacy we leave and hope to make a real difference through the work we do.

About the role:

LUC’s ecology team is growing; in 2018 we will provide support to a diverse portfolio of energy, transport, housing, and tourism projects, in locations ranging from the Hebrides to Central London.

We require Consultant Ecologists to join our permanent teams in Glasgow and London.   Drawing on your existing experience, you will work across all areas of ecological consultancy, primarily designing and delivering habitat and protected species surveys and preparing written reports for clients.  The role will include an element of project management and client liaison.

You will travel regularly and the nature of the role will require you to work anti-social hours and often work away from home.

This role is best suited to a candidate with some experience in ecological consultancy.  As a member of an experienced and highly regarded team, this role offers an opportunity for considerable career development and progression.  You will have an opportunity to expand your skills beyond field survey, working with your colleagues to design and implement mitigation for a range of projects, while gaining experience of project and financial management.  The role is supported by a generous training allowance and flexible working opportunities.

Salary:  £18k - £19k depending on experience (plus London allowance where applicable)

About you:

You will have a degree in a relevant environmental discipline, and some relevant experience in ecological consultancy in the UK.

You will:

  • Have Graduate or Associate membership of CIEEM or a comparable organisation;
  • Have an understanding of protected species and the legislation relating to them;
  • Have experience of protected species surveys and have/be working towards a protected species licence;
  • Have experience of Phase 1 Habitat Survey methods;
  • Have a full driver’s licence;
  • Be a self-starter, capable of working alone or with minimal supervision, including in the field;
  • Be willing to work anti-social hours, particularly in support of bat surveys; and
  • Be willing to work away from home at locations across the UK
