Job details

Cheshire West and Chester Council is looking to recruit a Natural Environment Officer to help it protect and enhance the borough’s natural environment which includes internationally important rivers and estuaries, meres and mosses, nationally significant examples of ancient woodlands, grasslands and lowland heathlands, and a range of protected species.

Promoting the conservation of biodiversity through the planning system with developers, government agencies and planners is a challenging role, and you will need to constantly push forward best professional practice and respond to changes in government policy to maximise the benefits for biodiversity.

You will also provide specialist advice to other Council services and integrate biodiversity into their work to ensure that the authority is fulfilling its statutory and regulatory obligations. The successful candidate will also develop income generation opportunities and work with partners to develop ecosystems and biodiversity projects.

You will have considerable experience in ecology, preferably within local government, and must have a sound knowledge of habitats and species and relevant legislation.  Strong negotiating, interpersonal and presentation skills and an ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary partnership environment are essential.
