CES Ltd is a small professional consultancy formed in 2015 to provide arboricultural, landscape and environmental consultancy services to UK clients for both the public and private sectors.

Our consultants in Hampshire and Bedfordshire provide expertise and professional advice across a range of disciplines based on knowledge, experience and training. Qualifications held within CES Ltd include BSc, MSc, CEnv and MICFor.

An opportunity has arisen for an Ecological Consultant to join a friendly and professional team delivering consultancy services to a wide range of clients across the UK with a track record of providing client focused and high-quality support to infrastructure and construction industries.

We’re looking for a professional, dynamic and motivated individual, with the ability to work alone and as part of a team. Successful candidates will be qualified with a degree in a relevant scientific, ecological or environmental discipline and with a few years of industry experience.

Membership of CIEEM will be essential and all candidates will be encouraged to be working towards chartership.  You will also need to hold a full UK driving licence.

We are interested in hearing from candidates with experience in the following areas:

  • Competent in undertaking habitat surveys (Phase 1, NVC) 
  • Thorough knowledge of wildlife legislation and the planning system leading to confidence in providing technical advice to clients
  • Ecological survey experience, Ecological site assessments
  • Holder of Natural England EPS licence is desirable
  • Site Supervision experience / Ecological watching briefs
  • Environmental Impact Assessments (Highways / DMRB knowledge)
  • Experience of undertaking desk studies and site surveys taking non-statutory EIA’s from design through to construction
  • Stakeholder Engagement (such as Wildlife Trusts, Environmental Health Officers, Natural England, Heritage England, Environment Agency, Local Planning Authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities etc)
  • Application for licences and consents
  • Identification, development and project management of Ecological Schemes
  • Ability to work in a team and alone.

Though we are looking for an ecological professional the role will be diverse and the candidate will be required to undertake activities outside of pure ecological field to support the wider team and client requirements. 

As a mid-level position, we would require the candidate to be competent in working under own initiative, managing key clients, contributing to the tendering process, mentoring junior staff.

Communicative, organised, flexible and committed, you must also have:

  • Data collation and interpretation experience
  • Report preparation / writing skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Good IT skills with a working knowledge of spreadsheets and office word processing
  • A full, clean driver’s licence is essential.
  • Our work covers a large area and flexibility to be able to spend nights away, driving to locations and ability to work remotely are key skills which would be desired for this role.
