How do I join?

CIEEM offers a range of membership grades from Student through to Chartership and Fellowship. The most suitable grade for you is determined by your background, competence and professional experience.

Admission to our professional membership grades is based on CIEEM’s Competency Framework which details competencies expected of those working in the sector. For those still gaining appropriate knowledge and skills, we offer Student and Qualifying membership grades. For more information and details of how to apply for our different grades visit the menu on the left.

If you are already a member of CIEEM and looking to upgrade, please login to the Members’ Area to download an upgrade application form.

Which membership grade is best for you?

If you are just starting out as a professional and building on your knowledge and skills through training, practical experience and supervision, we will support your professional development through subsidised events, local networking opportunities, examples of best practice and the latest sector news delivered straight to your inbox.    BASIC Our Qualifying members have some knowledge with an understanding of terminology and concepts, some experience of practical application and may be able to carry out standard tasks to the required standard under supervision.
Your career is well underway.  You are working confidently and consistently well on increasingly complex projects without supervision and may even be supervising others from time to time.  Work with us to map out your career path, identify your development needs and plan your CPD to take you where you want to be.  CAPABLE Associate members have the knowledge and experience essential to carry out standard tasks unsupervised confidently and consistently well but may need advice to carry out complex tasks
As a well-established professional, you have gained the knowledge and experience to deliver complex, specialist projects.  You are leading teams, mentoring young professionals, and possibly even delivering formal education to others.  Speak at our events, write for our publications, help to shape our work and gain increased professional recognition through Chartership.  ACCOMPLISHED Our Full members have the knowledge and experience to carry out complex, specialist or non-standard tasks confidently and consistently. They are aware of alternative options and approaches and can provide guidance, instruction and advice to others.
You are widely recognised as an authority in your field by both internal and external peers.  Here is where all that hard work allows you to have input into the development of policy, strategy and guidance.  You might even be helping us to assess and support the next generation of professionals.  AUTHORITATIVE Members who have been assessed as evidencing competence at this level are widely recognised as an authority in their field for the knowledge and experience they demonstrate.
