Select Committee recommends new Environmental Protection Act

06 Jan 2017

MPs are warning the Government that environmental protections must not be weakened during the process of leaving the EU or afterwards. The Environmental Audit Committee is calling on the Government to introduce a new Environmental Protection Act during Article 50 negotiations to maintain the UK's strong environmental standards.

CIEEM - jointly with the British Ecological Society, the Institution of Environmental Sciences and the Landscape Institute - has identified a number of principles for future policy relating to land management and the natural environment, and has issued a joint letter to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs setting out our ideas in greater detail as well as our support for some of the key recommendations from the Committee’s report.
