Student Membership

Why join as a Student member?

Student membership entitles you to a wide range of membership benefits including: 

  • our quarterly bulletin In Practice, E-newsletters and policy briefings; 
  • you can get involved with your local Geographic Section and; 
  • receive discounted rates to CIEEM Training and Events. 

Becoming a Student member of CIEEM will give you access to a wealth of opportunities to network with experienced professionals and potential employers, giving you a valuable insight into the various career options (see more on our Students & Careers pages). Once you graduate you can upgrade to Graduate or Qualifying membership and continue your journey towards Full membership. 

Who can join?

Applicants for Student membership must be engaged in a full-time or part-time course leading to an examined degree, HND, Foundation degree or equivalent qualification inany subject. We ask our Student members who wish to remain members of CIEEM to upgrade within one year of completing their course. 

Degree Accreditation

Please be aware that CIEEM does accredit some degrees and degree pathways. To find out more information, and to check if your course is accredited, please go to our CIEEM Accredited Degrees webpage. Students enrolled on CIEEM accredited programmes are eligible for discounted Student membership. 

How do I join?

You need to fill out an application form and post or email it back to the Membership Team.

What if I’ve already graduated?

When you have finished studying, Student members wishing to remain members of CIEEM must apply to upgrade to Graduate or Qualifying Membership within one year of completing their course. You can apply to upgrade to Graduate membership if you have a PhD, Masters or Bachelors degree in a relevant subject.  If you have studied a relevant Foundation Science (FdSc) degree then you will need to have topped this up before joining as a Graduate member, otherwise please apply for Qualifying membership. If you are currently a PhD or Masters student you could apply to become either a Student, Graduate or Qualifying member depending on your previous qualifications.
