I have been a local government ecologist for 30 years, and currently work for Shropshire Council as Natural Environment Team Leader. I have been a full member of CIEEM since 1997 and have previously served on the Professional Standards Committee and the Advisory Forum. My work has encompassed, countryside management, community engagement, ecological aspects of development management and planning policy, including habitat regulations assessments, liaison with Biodiversity Partnerships and facilitating the development of the Shropshire Ecological Data Network. If I become a West Midlands committee member I would like to:

  • Help the Institute to support LA ecologists and encourage all LAs to adequately cover their statutory Biodiversity Duty,
  • Help encourage a consistent approach to biodiversity issues, across LA boundaries, by both LA ecologists and ecological consultants.
  • Help organize events on topical issues to spread knowledge, promote discussion and provide members with more local opportunities for CPD.

I’m an ecologist with more than 20 experience of consultancy, 30 of project and habitat management experience.  I was a foundation member, representing Southern England on the National Council of the BCT in the 1990’s.  I work with all types of wildlife, and with bats since the 1970’s in the UK and abroad. I’m a Registered Consultant under the Bat Low Impact Class Licence System. I run my own company started in 1993, along with associates.  I’m a foundation and currently serving committee member of the West Midlands Section Committee. I’m world-experience shaped (I’ve been a farmer, an estate manager, an area warden, a woodland manager, a lecturer and a zookeeper).
